Dr. Phelps is a pediatric radiologist and medical illustrator at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco. He believes medical illustrations are key to medical education and research. His current work focuses on the depiction of changes in anatomy during development and during/after surgical procedures, the effects of disease on anatomy, and childhood disorders both congenital and acquired. His practice as a radiologist gives him a unique understanding and visualization of pathophysiology, human anatomy, and the changes that arise in anatomy as a consequence of disease.
When not at work, Dr. Phelps can be found cycling around town, photographing everything, and spending time with family.
